TODAY IN MICHIGAN HISTORY
March 14th

1865
Brunson Harbor becomes Benton Harbor. In 1860, Sterne Brunson, Henry C. Morton and Charles Hull developed this site on the banks of the St. Joseph River in Berrien County by building a canal from it to the harbor. Three years later, they platted a village, calling it Brunson Harbor. It was renamed for Thomas Hart Benton, a Missouri senator credited with supporting Michigan's 1835-36 plea to become a state.

Clarence Burton donates one of the nation’s finest archival collections to the Detroit Public Library.
1967
Four of the first eight men selected in the NFL-AFL draft came from Michigan State University. Bubba Smith, George Webster, Gene Washington, and Clint Jones.
1994
President Clinton opens G-7 Conference, leaders of world’s industrial nations, at Fox Theatre in Detroit.
